Bobby Zamora opened the scoring on 13 minutes after a Clint Dempsey shot from 25 yards struck him on the back before spinning past goalkeeper David James and creeping in.
The home side had several chances with which to score the equaliser, but did not manage to test Mark Schwarzer in the Fulham goal.
